Ryan Corcoran

Sonnet on Buxton Park

Ryan Corcoran is a fourth-year majoring in English, Political Science, and International Relations at Simpson College. Ryan primarily enjoys writing poetry, plays, and short stories in his work. Despite a passion for writing, he will attend law school following graduation and pursue a specialization in Constitutional Law or International Law. In his free time, he enjoys bowling, playing the trumpet, and thrifting.

Jeri Eisbrenner is a student at Simpson College, pursuing a double major in Social Justice Studies and English. They merge these two studies in their work, aiming to reflect daily life and contemporary issues. Jeri draws inspiration from the injustices faced by different minority groups, exploring themes surrounding the LGBTQ+ community, activism, and identity.

Thomas Griego

Dear Sister

Thomas Griego is from Des Moines, Iowa, and has his cat here with him. he is a sophomore at Simpson, and English and literature are two of his favorite kinds of subjects to study. He spends a lot of time reading and writing, and finds it to be a therapeutic way to convey emotions about difficult aspects of life. His piece is dedicated to his big sister; she will always be the person who inspires him the most. 

Maddy Gunzenhauser

I Want My Childhood Smile Back; The Memories; Snowy Night

Maddy Gunzenhauser is an artistic Jack-of-all-trades. She enjoys the exploration of new creative outlets, and her current favorites are prose, poetry, and theater, which she is involved in both on and off campus. Whether it be with visual arts, performing arts, or creative writing, Maddy is always immersed in the creative communities around her. She is often inspired by her life and the world around her, as well as the works of other artists. This is her second year being published in Sequel.

Mollie Hinkle

It’s Dark Outside

Mollie Beth is a Simpson alum from a quaint little in Southeast Iowa. When she’s not wrangling her colleagues or serving on the weekends, she indulges her creative side. She’swritten several songs, made countless pieces of jewelry, painted through lots of watercolor paper, and collected supplies to do so much more. When writing Mollie focuses on evoking emotion through rhythm, repetition, visual interest, metaphors, and atmospheric phrases; this is present in both her poetry and lyrics. She pulls inspiration for her works from contemporary musicians and authors but loves incorporatingthemes from philosophical and historical writing as well. 

Paul Hyatt

I swear I’m not one of them

Paul is a Simpson College alum and currently works in the college’s Center for Academic Resources as the Academic Resource Coordinator. In their free time, Paul loves to write, read, and play all kinds of games from board to card to video. They love their position at Simpson and especially enjoy the conversations they have with students and helping students find the academic resources that work for them in their educational journey. Kate is from Liberty, Missouri, and came to Simpson in 2021.  She is graduating this spring with majors in Graphic Design & Computer Information Systems and a minor in Interactive Media.  She is involved in many things on campus, including the Swim and Dive team, the graphic design club, and a work study.  She enjoys Formula One, the PWHL, and reading.

Hazel Morgan-Fine

Carl’s Adventure Pal, Gideon; Recipe Card; Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Hazel Morgan-Fine (She/They) is majoring in Media studies and graduates this spring. She is from Braddyville, Iowa. Growing up with two brothers and lots of pets, she enjoys reading stories with a distinct voice and she tries to reflect all of those elements in her writing. She has worked on Sequel in the past and has been published in Sequel previously. She has been involved with lots of organizations on campus, the longest is Kappa Theta Psi Fraternity. When Hazel isn’t writing, she is reading books, watching TV, relaxing with her fiancé, or advancing one of her dozen hobbies.

Kenneth Norris

A Note; Our New Frontier

Kenneth is a senior at Simpson College majoring in Theatre Arts and minoring in Physics. His favorite memories of Simpson are of the time spent with his Fellows of Kappa Theta Psi Fraternity and working as a theatre technician for Simpson Productions. In his free time, he enjoys hand-sewing projects, hosting tabletop role playing games, and watching history mini-documentaries with his wife (his inspiration for putting the most beautiful words he can on paper), Cassidy Daub. 

Summer Pasutti

It’s October and All of My Ghosts Are Free

Summer is a December 2024 graduate from Simpson College. She is currently substitute teaching after spending her fall semester student teaching abroad in New Zealand. She will be a 7/8th grade English/Language Arts teacher this coming school year. She has been writing since she was 7 years old and has two poems published in a national high school collection of poetry. She is currently in the early stages of writing her first fantasy novel.

Makayla Paulsen

Sunset on Film

Makayla Paulsen is a junior from Pocahontas, Iowa, double majoring in Marketing Communication and Management, minoring in Legal Studies and Political Science, and she is in the Honors Program. Her love of photography started at 9 years old after receiving her first point-and-shoot. Now, she shoots digitally on a DSLR and on film with her mom’s old camera. Makayla loves to travel so she can explore the beautiful world and take more photos.  At Simpson, Makayla is the 2025 student body president, the undergraduate assistant for the mock trial program, a writing consultant, a staff reporter at the Simpsonian and ID Magazine, and active in many other student organizations.

Leelia Rudicil is currently a sophomore focusing on Graphic Design. Based in Des Moines, she is primarily an urbex photographer, but also enjoys all kinds of portraiture, illustration, and creative writing. She has produced artwork for several organizations, including the Des Moines Art Festival, Capital City Pride, Hinterland, and the Iowa State Fair. 

Rachel Terlop

Soup; I think about it all the time

Rev. Dr. Rachel Terlop is an interdisciplinary artist and educator exploring the intersections of neurodiversity, technology, and play in creative expression. Rachel serves as an instructor in the teacher education department. Rooted in education and inclusion, Rachel incorporates movement, symbolic color/code, and participatory elements to challenge perceptions of learning spaces. A member of the North River Arts Council and Indianola Public Arts Commission, they blend research, advocacy, and artistic practice to foster accessibility in museums and classrooms alike.

Andrea Warner

Bedtime Story; Winter Warmth

Andrea Warner is a senior majoring in Environmental Science. She has always found nature to be wondrous, and enjoys going out on hikes to capture its beauty through photography. She began working with a digital camera last year while attending a photography class at Simpson, and learned various valuable methods that she hopes can be seen reflected in her work. She had inspiration to capture the quiet peacefulness around campus when the first major snow to hit Simpson gently fell towards the ground.
